When it comes to a music video, there are the conventions of it's form itself and also the genre that the music video is set in:
The definition of form is ; the visible shape or configuration of something and a particular way in which a thing exists or appears.
The definition of genre is; a style or category.
There are specific conventions which relate to the form of a music video:
- Music
- Sound
- Lyrics
- Performer/Character (Usually the person who sings the song)
- Linear structure
- Clear narrative (performance or abstract)
- Dancing
- Performance
- Lip-Sync
- Cuts/Dissolves & Fades
- Clear use of Cinematography
- Costume changes
- Location changes
- Props
The song I am using is Bruno Mars/ Talking to the Moon and Bruno Mars and his music is from the Pop genre. The conventions of the Pop genre are:
- Artists are dressed in up to date fashion and are stylish
- Artists music always relate to love/happiness to relate to audience
- Artists are always perceived to be happy and content
- Artists and bands express the unity associated with teens which are the main target audience
- The songs have a constant beat
- Pop music is usually distributed through radio, magazines, television and also through social media
- Technology and extreme edits are used in pop
- The boys are good looking, and the 'perfect man'
- Women are sexually exposed and wear revealing clothing
