- The music video betrays an inter-textual reference to the 1995 film Clueless. (A Beverly Hills teen (Alicia Silverstone) plays matchmaker for teachers, transforms a bad dresser (Brittany Murphy) and examines her own existence'
- The narrative betrayed within this music video is that there is one popular girl who is trying to out do all the other girls. The music video is very sassy and has a lot of costume changes in relation to the scene changes.
- Here are a few examples of the costume changes that took place in this music video.
- There is a classroom scene and then outside scenes.

- Secondly I decided that I would look at male pop artists and see if the same amount of costume changes occur in their music videos as they do in female videos. It is evident that also in male music videos the costume changes also occur to fit the narrative.
- In One Directions-best song ever it is evident that costume changes are made. These are used to fit the narrative of the music video.
- The male artists actually dress as females in this music video to actually mock themselves.
- I believe that costume changes here are crucial because they emphasize the difference in story line.
From doing this research in to the different genders and what to expect from music videos, I believe that costume changes are highly conventional of pop music videos. Even music videos that are male based have costume changes in them.
